Good Luck With That by Kristan Higgins

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book details from Goodreads:

Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults.

For each of them, that means something different. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's about learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards, and learning to accept the love her ex-husband has tried to give her.

But as Marley and Georgia grow stronger, the real meaning of Emerson's dying wish becomes truly clear: more than anything, she wanted her friends to love themselves.

REVIEW:  So well written, as Kristan Higgins always does. You can feel the pure friendship and emotions from these characters. You cry as you read Emerson's diary to her thinner self, as you learn how horrible Georgia's family is to her, as Marley learns to deal with her sister's death. You laugh and cheer as they accomplish small victories and stand up for themselves.

I cried, laughed, plotted revenge for my new friends, and hoped they would find happiness. I wasn't always overweight, but now I just can't lose the weight. Everyone has quick fixes and strategies. It's always so simple, but in reality it's more than just eating right and exercising. I hope I can work on my list, love myself, and stop feeling less than because I'm not image others want me to be.

Oh poor Emerson, had a traumatic background (molestation) and a depressed mother. Eating food kept her safe and reminded her of her mom. She met a man, who had a fetish of making her heavy, she realized it was too late and she became too big. Too many health complications arose and she couldn't fight the battle and passed in the hospital. Her friends didn't realize it was so bad, since she lived far away. She wrote them letters about the lists they made at summer camp.

Georgia had a crappy mom and brother, and because of the emotional abuse at their hands wound up ruining her happy and loving marriage. Don't worry, with the love of her Marley and her nephew Mason, she stands up for herself and those she loves. She finds a way back to her ex husband who always loved her.

Marley (narrated by Xe Sands...my favorite narrator) lost her twin at 4 years old, comes from a super Italian family, and is being used by a cute guy. With the help of the list, her friend Georgia, and a client (she cooks and delivers fresh and healthy meals), she stands up for herself. Marley falls in love with a client, Will, who has his own issues of past trauma and PTSD. They in fact help each other.
